Suzuki Ring and Pinion
The Ring and Pinion transfer the traction from the drive shafts to the drive shafts and then to the wheels.
The Ring and Pinion are one of the weakest elements of the kinematic chain and must be reinforced to avoid any possible breakage.
The Ring and Pinion also determines the final transmission ratio, the best ratio for your off-road vehicle must be chosen mainly based on the diameter of the tires used.
The Ring and Pinion ratio indicates the ratio between the number of rotations of the crown with respect to the pinion, for example a Ring and Pinion with ratio 4.57 indicates that every 4.57 revolutions of the pinion the crown completes one complete revolution.
Reduced reinforced Ring and Pinion for Suzuki Samurai
How to choose the correct ratio First of all you need to know the original ratio of your Samurai or Sj Ring and Pinion gears because it was chosen by the parent company based on the gearbox and reduction gear ratios that vary according to the models, here is a brief summary:
Ring and Pinion sj410
The Sj410 apart from some Samurai 1000 where originally a bridge equal to that of the 1.300cc models was installed use a bridge of reduced dimensions with bevel gears 4.111:1 with 37 teeth on the crown and 9 teeth on the pinion, we omit the installation of the pairs reduced ring and pinion on these axle because the moment are not produced.
Ring and Pinion Samurai 1.300cc and Sj413
The Suzuki Samurai 1.300cc carburetor and the Samurai II produced since 1998 have bevel gears with 43-tooth crown and 11-tooth pinion with a 3.909:1 ratio, on these vehicles we recommend the installation of the 4.57 ratio when installing tires of size 215/80 and 5.38 ratio when 235/80 or larger tires are installed.
On the Suzuki SJ413 with 69hp injection, bevel gears with 41-tooth crown and 11-tooth pinion with a 3.727:1 ratio were originally installed, on these vehicles we recommend the installation of the 4.57 ratio when installing tires up to 235/80 and the ratio 5.38 when installing tires greater than or equal to 31".
On Suzuki Samurai 1.300 or Samurai Diesel or Td injection 80hp, bevel gears with 41-tooth crown and 12-tooth pinion with 3.416: 1 ratio were installed, on these vehicles we recommend the installation of the 4.57 ratio when installing tires up to 31" and 5.38 ratio when installing tires over 31".
The ratio must also be chosen based on the use made of the vehicle, the recommended ratios are those indicated to bring the final reduction ratio to values very similar to the original so as not to stress the other transmission parts, if you use your Suzuki in challenging offroad we recommend choosing a smaller ratio than recommended, contact us for personalized advice on the choice. We also recommend not taking into account the installation of a super-reduced kit in the choice of the bevel gear ratio, the minimum reduction made by a super-reduced kit on long gears only improves the traction on the road without excessively penalizing the maximum speed.
