King's bypass shock absorber technology represents the culmination of refining a design that dates back more than a decade. Regardless of your suspension needs, King can provide specific bypasses to best configure your off-road suspension and ensure complete control of high and low-speed oscillation.
Bypass shocks for your off-road vehicle represent a huge performance upgrade when configured correctly. With the correct shock body size, stroke length, bypass tube arrangement and tuning, they can be incredible for the most demanding off-road driving.
Bypass shocks work by allowing oil to flow through tubes around the shock's main piston. Each tube contains a check valve that allows oil to flow in only one direction. By stacking the bypass tubes around the body at different heights, the shock absorber has softer zones and stiffer zones. The stiffness of each zone is controlled by the diameter of the bypass tube and the opening of the check valve (external adjustment).
Bypasses are position sensitive; it is possible for the tubes to be positioned incorrectly, which can make the shock absorber too stiff and jarring, too soft and bouncy, or even non-adjustable.

The height position of the bypass tubes relative to the piston is very important for proper operation. For a 2-tube bypass shock absorber, there are mainly 3 zones where the shock absorber will be affected by the valve and compression tubes:
the Bump Zone is the zone where the shock absorber is close to full lowering and the piston has passed all the bypass tubes;
the Ride Zone is the zone where the vehicle will be at trim height and where it will move most of the time;
the Top Out Zone is when the shock absorber is fully extended and the piston has passed all the extension tubes.
Likewise, the performance of a bypass shock absorber is dictated by its tuning. Tuning in all shock absorbers refers to our ability to control the force of the shock absorber over a wide range of shaft speeds. For example, shock absorbers that do not run enough oil move poorly because oil flowing through a fixed bore increases forces exponentially. The same happens with bypasses when the internal valve is stiff and the tubes are too small. For this reason, it is important that the vehicle be equipped with the correct bypass damper, assuming a bypass damper is needed.
Bypass shocks have hard zones and soft zones. Without an adequate amount of upward travel, there is no room for each zone to do its job well and you can end up with shocks that are too soft or too stiff. Therefore, for suspensions with less than 5″ of maximum stroke, bypass shocks are not recommended.
Bypass shocks are designed for off-road performance. If you are looking for the best ride on the road and do not plan to do demanding off-road riding, bypass shocks may not be the best choice for you.
Bypass shocks can be ordered with different compression and rebound bypass tubes. In general, the more tubes, the more adjustable the shocks are.
2-tube bypass shocks
2-tube bypass shocks generally have one compression and one rebound tube. The rapid transition between the travel zone and the shock zone can be aggressive.
3-tube bypass shocks
Also called triple bypass shocks, these are by far the most common configuration. The extra compression tube helps make the compression zones smoother.

These 2.5" diameter bypass shocks are equipped with a Remote reservoir and 2/3 external bypass tubes.
In the Remote separate reservoir version, the gas canister is detached from the shock absorber and connected through Aeroquip Performance Products hoses and fittings, a company that has been the number one choice of racing enthusiasts around the world for more than 80 years. This version has the feature of keeping the gas separate from the oil inside the shock absorber, so the oil emulsion effect that temporarily inhibits the effectiveness of the shock absorber is not created.

Compressed and extended shock lengths are measured from eye to eye. Some shock absorber options may change the dimensions.

In the first style the ByPass hoses are at the side of the reservoir, in the second style the hoses are in front of the reservoir.
OPTIONS
The King Byapass shock can be accessorized according to your needs either when ordering or later with the following accessories:
90° or 45° reservoir fitting: you can separately choose the angle of the fittings that connect the tube to the reservoir and the shock absorber body, in the standard version the fittings are straight;
Wide spacers: it is possible to choose the pin diameter and the width of attachment to the frame and axle;
External bump stop: it is possible to choose whether to insert a bumpstop made of rubber or polyurethane, higher and softer;
Rod end length: it is possible to install supports that connect the coilover stem to the bridge, 5 sizes over the standard;
Reservoir: it is possible to have the short finned reservoir to better dissipate heat.
